The Dry
This piece is the sister artwork to 'The Wet'. The two go hand in hand; we can not have one without the other.
Across 2022 and 2023, I painted the biggest artworks I've ever done. This one and its partner took me around 9-10 months to finish, adding small details every few weeks between my usual work. Normally, I don't paint like this. I usually finish a piece in just a few days, working on it nonstop. But these two pieces are different. They needed more of my time and attention because of the intricate details. They are some of my most important work, they take me back home to Country as a kid. I LOVE these pieces!
The Story of The Dry
Back home on Country, The Dry (season) is the cooler time of the year. The mornings are crisp, and the days are refreshing. It's one of the best feelings to be out there and wake up to have a cup of tea around the fire, breathing in the fresh, cold air. At the start of the season, everything is still green from The Wet, but further along, the lush green landscape transforms into a striking display of pinks, reds, and yellows.
The dried creeks and rivers reveal different soil types, such as clay, sand, dirt, and rocks. Purple and pink wildflowers grow in little groups. There are small bits of land that don't have anything but rocks and the odd overflow of flowers or medicine grass, and you can see where the cattle follow each other by the pads (paths) that run through the spinifex.
This is my Country in The Dry.
