Darwin Street Art Festival

Darwin Street Art Festival

August 11, 2020 | Cullen Bay Marina, NT, Australia

In August 2020, I was honoured to be asked to participate in the Darwin Street Art Festival, marking my first-ever public showing of my art. I was given the incredible opportunity to paint the pillars at Cullen Bay Marina, a location that has such a vibrant connection to the Darwin community.

This experience was so exciting—and a little nerve-wracking! I spent an entire week out on the pier painting the pillars, turning them into bold, colourful works that represented my early style. It was my first time interacting directly with the public while creating art, and the response blew me away.

So many people stopped by to ask questions, take photos, and watch the process unfold. It felt surreal to share not just the finished pieces but the act of creating them. These conversations and moments of connection reminded me of how much art can bring people together.

I can’t thank the Darwin Street Art Festival team enough for trusting me with this opportunity. Their support gave me a platform to showcase my work in such a meaningful way. To this day, those pillars remain at Cullen Bay Marina—so if you’re ever in Darwin, be sure to check them out for a glimpse of early nardurna.

This project wasn’t just about the finished pillars; it was about growth. It was a step outside of my comfort zone and a chance to connect with my community in a way I hadn’t before. The experience solidified my confidence as an artist and showed me how impactful public art can be.
