The story of my artwork
This artwork is of a Lagija (Coolamon), a traditional and deeply meaningful object for Gudanji people. They are used to cradle our babies, rocking them gently to sleep with their curved embrace. They carry precious water, hold food to nourish loved ones, and keep the coals warm when moving fires – all so important when we are home on Country. Each Lagija carries the stories of nurturing hands and resourceful hearts, passed down through generations of people who honour their families and traditions.
The artwork packaging comes with an explanation of the symbols used and the story it tells.
